A 2,450 sqm four-storey modular hotel delivered to Antofagasta, Chile — comprising 108 rooms, two stair cores, and a fully engineered steel modular frame system designed to meet local seismic and structural requirements. The project was originally specified by the client as a container-based system, but engineering analysis demonstrated that a purpose-designed welded modular building was required to safely achieve the four-storey stacking load.
MICA's engineering team worked alongside the client's local engineers to develop a modular frame solution combining welded floor modules, structural columns, and bracing supports — all pre-fabricated off-site for rapid on-site assembly. Floor modules incorporate 18mm cement fiber board, 100mm rock wool insulation, and 9mm OSB underside, with internal cavities for water and electrical services. The result was delivered on time and led to repeat business with the client across additional modular projects.
